The ExpressCard Logo


The ExpressCard Logo is a registered trademark of PCMCIA. Usage of the ExpressCard logo is restricted to products which have passed the ExpressCard Compliance Program and which are branded by PCMCIA member companies. In addition, member companies must execute the ExpressCard Logo License Agreement to use the logo in conjunction with the compliant product.

Shown below are the official versions of the logo available for use on eligible products. Selection of the specific version depends upon the size of the application and the area available for logo placement. The usage requirements are the same for all versions of the ExpressCard logo.

* The Shorthand logos are intended to be used only on product where there is limited space available for logo placement. The standard 34 mm and 54 mm logos are preferred when adequate space is available.

ExpressCard Logo Usage Requirements

Below is a summary of the requirements to obtain a license to use the ExpressCard Logo:

  1. Product must be branded by a PCMCIA member company
    (click here for information on membership)
  2. Product type must be eligible for the ExpressCard Compliance Program
    (ExpressCard host system, module, power switch or connector)
  3. Product must pass the ExpressCard Compliance Program
  4. Member must sign the ExpressCard Logo License Agreement for the compliant product
  5. Logo may be used only on compliant products, compliant product packaging, and in association with the marketing of compliant products (marketing collateral, etc.).

In addition, the actual usage of the ExpressCard logo on the product, product packaging or marketing materials must follow the ExpressCard Logo Usage Guidelines as published by PCMCIA (available to PCMCIA members at the www.expresscard.org Members-only web site.

ExpressCard Logo Usage Violations

PCMCIA pursues violators of the usage terms of the ExpressCard logo. The ExpressCard logo is valuable intellectual property of PCMCIA and all of its members. If you wish to report a potential violation of usage of the ExpressCard logo, please contact office@pcmcia.org.

 


The ExpressCard Word Mark


The term 'ExpressCard' is a registered trademark of PCMCIA. Member companies are encouraged to use the ExpressCard trademark to promote ExpressCard technology. Usage of the ExpressCard Word Mark must follow the Trademark Usage Guidelines as published by PCMCIA (available to PCMCIA members at the www.expresscard.org Members-only web site.)

The ExpressCard brand and brand elements shall not be used in a manner that might damage the goodwill associated with the brand or other member companies of PCMCIA.

The term 'ExpressCard' is an adjective and should never be used as a noun or verb. There are two card sizes. The narrower (34 mm) version of the card is an ExpressCard/34 module. The wider (54 mm) version of the card is an ExpressCard/54 module.

Trademark Notation, First Use and Attribution of the Word Mark

The registered trademark symbol "®" should be added in superscript form immediately following the word mark wherever the word mark first appears on product packaging, products, web pages, and marketing pieces, and in textual information. The "®" symbol should come before the slash wherever the card width indicators are used.

Trademark Legend or Footnote

Whenever the ExpressCard word mark is used, it must be attributed with an appropriate trademark footnote. The footnote may be presented in small type but must be large enough to be legible. This footnote generally appears at the end of a document or on the back of a package, but it may appear at the bottom of a press release or a web page or the inside cover of technical documentation.

Sample Text:

"The ExpressCard word mark and logos are owned by the PCMCIA and any use of such marks by [licensee name] is under license. Other trademarks and trade names are those of their respective owners."

Spelling

ExpressCard is a registered trademark, and as such its spelling cannot be changed. It is always to be used in English; it must not be translated into other languages.

Improper Use of the word mark

The following examples illustrate improper uses of the ExpressCard word mark and are not allowed.

"A PC with ExpressCard"The ExpressCard word mark should never be used as a noun
"ExpressCard your system..." The ExpressCard word mark should never be used as a verb
"ExpressCard's specification includes..."
"ExpressCard-enabled products..."
No possessives, plurals or hyphenations
"Expresscard" Always capitalize both the 'E' and 'C' in the word mark
"PCI ExpressCard"
"PCI-ExpressCard"
Although the ExpressCard interface utilizes PCI Express, this usage is incorrect and violates the trademarks of both PCMCIA ('ExpressCard') and the PCI-SIG ('PCI Express')

The forward slash in the size indicators should never be substituted with another character (except as part of the official ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54 logos which use the vertical bar)
