ExpressCard Modules

Notebook users have a need for modular, add-in peripheral expansion capability, whether it's to add new, emerging technologies or those that were not included originally. The multiple wireless internet technologies (3G, CDMA, EV-DO, GPRS, UMTS) mean that an add-in module is necessary in order to get connected. Serial ATA (eSATA) modules provide an ultra high-speed disk drive connection for backup and restore. 1394B (FireWire 800) provides a direct high-speed link to video cameras. An ExpressCard module can provide the quickest way to download pictures from today's high-capacity digital camera cards (CompactFlash, MMC, MemoryStick, SD, xD, etc.).

ExpressCard technology enables notebook users to extend the life of their notebook computers. The fast performance offered by ExpressCard technology enables users to achieve maximum performance. For example, users will be able to take full advantage of the SATA II and Firewire 800 performance characteristics with ExpressCard technology. PC Card cannot support those bandwith speeds. As technology evolves, more modules will be introduced to support future applications like WiMax and HDTV.

A wide range of modules are available today and development of new applications continues.
